Solution Focused Approach is a future-oriented, goal-directed approach to brief therapy and coaching, developed initially by Insoo Kim Berg, Steve de Shazer and their colleagues and clients in the early 1980s. It is a highly disciplined, pragmatic approach that has become successfully used in divergent fields such as education, social policy and business to support fast and lasting change. This approach involves a dramatic shift of paradigm towards solution-building interventions. The Solution Focused approach stresses the importance of seeing each client as the expert in finding his/her own solutions. It brings to the surface and builds on clients' resources and strengths.
